Safer Projects.

From the Start.

Principal Designer and CDM support to help your team identify risks and plan construction work safely.

Bring Safety Into the Design.

Decisions made during design and planning can affect how safely a building is constructed, used and maintained.

Simple Safety Advice provides Principal Designer services under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, alongside CDM advice for clients and project teams.

We work with you to identify foreseeable risks, coordinate important information and keep health and safety part of the project conversation.

Clear Coordination. Practical Support.

Client Advice

Help you understand your CDM responsibilities and the arrangements needed for your project.

Pre-Construction Information

Help bring together relevant surveys, existing records and project information for designers and contractors.

Design Risk Management

Work with designers to eliminate foreseeable risks where possible, and reduce or control those that remain.

Team Coordination

Encourage communication between designers so safety considerations are addressed across the project.

Principal Contractor Liaison

Share relevant design information and remaining risks to support construction planning.

Health & Safety File

Prepare and coordinate the health and safety file, keeping relevant information updated during our appointment.

Start the Conversation Early.

Involving us during the early design stages gives the team more opportunity to address risks before decisions become difficult to change.

We can discuss your project, the design work already completed and the support required, then agree a clear scope of appointment.

Where design continues during construction, ongoing coordination helps the team consider changes and communicate relevant risks.

A Clear Approach to Your Project.

  • 1. Understand the Brief

We discuss the project, the people involved and the information available.

  • 2. Coordinate the Design Stage

We work with the client and designers to review foreseeable risks, identify information gaps and coordinate safety matters.

  • 3. Keep Information Moving

We liaise with the principal contractor and coordinate relevant information for construction and the health and safety file.

Your Questions Answered.

When is a CDM Principal Designer needed?

Under CDM 2015, a Principal Designer is required where a project involves, or is reasonably likely to involve, more than one contractor. Involve them early enough to influence design and planning.

Does the role continue once construction starts?

The pre-construction phase can overlap with construction. The appointment should cover the period when the Principal Designer’s role is needed, including relevant ongoing design work.
